Here’s how you can save shots when you’re on a golf course. A lot of players, when they get in trouble, have a tendency to try and play a shot that has a very low percentage of success. Their mindset is, “If I can just pull this off I can still save this hole.”
We’ve all seen players do this. They are buried deep in the trees and will look up at the top and see an opening. The next thing they do is attempt to hit the ball through that opening! Nine times of ten this process fails miserably and now the player has a even more difficult shot.
The lesson here would be to punch the ball back out to the fairway and play for boogie. Here are some other examples to take into consideration when you are trying to save shots on the golf course.
1. If you fade the golf ball NEVER fire at left pins. The same can be said for right hand pins if you draw the ball.
2. ALWAYS aim at the center of the green! That way if the ball curves right or left you still have a chance of keeping the ball on the green and having a opportunity to make a putt.
3. If you’re in a greenside bunker your job is to get the ball on the green so that you can have a putt at making par.
4. When you’re on the tee box take the club that will get you to the 150 yard marker. That may be a three wood, a hybrid, or even your driver. Don’t get caught up trying to hit the driver as far as you can on every swing. The woods are full of long hitters!
5. Most players also don’t know how far, the distance, they hit each club. The distance you need to know is how far you carry each club NOT how far the club goes if you hit it absolutely perfect! I have yet to see a player hit a club the distance they think that club goes. In the majority of cases what a player thinks and what reality is are two different things.
6. The majority of missed shots into the green come up short. Rarely do I see the average player hit a ball over the green. Statistics show that mid and high handicappers almost always are short on their approach shots. It’s time to put away the ego and take more club.
